Moses couldn’ta said it better

I can’t remember when I’ve felt so slap-happy for no reason. I mean, no exceptional reason; there are lots of minor-league ones, lining up for the majors. I had to take Jess to work today. The boy already has two jobs lined up - two full-time jobs - and gets to make a decision based on how much money he’ll get paid by which. He’s in bidding wars right now. Ah, America. Van wants me to start researching universities that are known for good music programs, because he’s decided he’d rather play music - or teach it - or even adjust microphone stands - than cook all day as a chef. I think he’s wise, as he can play any instrument he picks up, without lessons, and balks if he has to get his own apple out of the fridge (see note). He wants me to do the research, because he has some strange idea I sit in front of the computer all day - hm - and he’s far too busy this week driving around with his friends getting tattoos. He leaves again for Iraq on Saturday.

We had such a good time Monday, Memorial Day… It was just my three kids and me. We saw X-Men 3, ate Japanese food, and drove home to munch popsicles while we watched stand-up comedians on dvd. I actually laughed all the mascara into my eyes and spent the rest of the day rubbing them and squinting at people through a red, blurry haze. Afterwards - before they left again - my two big boys installed a window air conditioner unit for me. I was so grateful. I felt like an old mommy whose grown sons come to do her heavy work on the weekends. They even hugged me goodbye, and kissed me on the cheek. Well, Van kissed me. Jesse licked my ear, the bugar.

Hey, Torie was with us, too. I love me my Torie.

Scott made it to Nantucket. He’s installed in his tiny office/apartment (a room in his employer’s house) and has his own truck to drive to work in, a nice change from last year when he was dependent on his friend for transportation, and a bike he borrowed. Biking through the ice and snow of a Nantucket winter isn’t as fun as it sounds. I know, I was shocked, too. He really loves that little ole former whaling community slash millionaire tourist helltrap. He’s making some good friends, and even gets to play drums once in awhile.

And me? I’m enjoying my friends, my kids, and even the simmering summer heat. Writing “simmering” made me think of “soylent” which launches me right into my favorite cheesy line of all time: “Soylent green is peeepullll!!!!” Between that, and “Those damn dirty apes!” Charleton Heston has the best lines sewn up, doesn’t he? And now I remember I bought The Rainmaker, which doesn’t star Mr. Heston, but Burt Lancaster. I love that movie, despite twitchy Katherine Hepburn. I think she was from Nantucket. La de frickin da. Bet she never had to live in a van down by the river. love you guys. xo

[note: Van actually likes to cook. I was exaggerating for effect, because it’s so much fun. Usually I lie without telling you, but I didn’t want to lie at his expense. See what a good mom I am?)

Good afternoon / morning Kelly a stor!

Today is my birthday. So far, it’s been lovely - doughnuts and pastries, then lunch in a restaurant with work people. Tonight, I get the Best Steak in Ireland in Donegan’s with the Beloved. Life is good.

I have Soylent Green Tivo’d. Thought you’d enjoy knowing that.

I can’t wait til my boys are big enough to install window units for me. Can’t wait! Your boys are men - you must be so proud of them. I’d be swollen if I were you. :)

Nice to have your Torie though, huh? It’s fun to do teenager girl stuff w/our girls. I’ll be sad when Diane is off at college, doing all the fun girl stuff with someone else. sigh.

(See, I AM that creepy Mom who crawls into their grown children’s beds and rocks them. I am!)

My son? All he wants to do is make movies and live in my basement…..
with an occassional gaming session thrown in for good measure. This week he is off to the Kevin Smith Film Festival (Clerks, Mallrats,Chasing Amy, Dogma….) in New Jersey.
No, kidding aside, he does have a job doing computer tech support. Yes, indeed. One of the few tech support companies still in the U S of A. Shocked? Most people are when they reach him…..
Girls? Well Kelsey gives me no worries - she just finished up her freshman year of college. Team player and all that. Organized and helpful.
Carissa on the other hand - my drama queen. She just broke up with her boyfriend, or he broke up with her, or it was mutual, (Obviously I’m confused) ~the important thing is that they broke up. When I was out of town for the weekend and couldn’t pick up the pieces. She survived. We all do.
But, yes, I love my kids - what would I do with out them? (besides have more money….;P)

Sorry Kelly, I thought the Birthday Moon deserved my undivided attention. First of all, speaking on teenager girl stuff, have you seen the movie Thirteen? It was released in 2004 and I read a review on it yesterday, at the Doctor’s, in a magazine from 2004. I am quite keen to hunt it down and watch it this weekend.
Also, my dinner tonight doesn’t taste that good. May I came over for tea tomorrow?
Beautiful Melbourne sends her warm cheers this cold winter. Oh, pardon me, beautiful Melbourne sends you her frosty cheers.
    (temperature the other night: 39degF)

Hellooo Nines, darling, and YES, I KNOW it’s your birthday!! I thought about you last night around 7p - I wanted to jot you a note so that it’d be the first thing to come in on your birthday (since you’re five hours ahead) but I got pulled away by mom stuff… And then I haven’t had a chance to write to you yet this morning - until now. So…

Happy Birthday dear friend. It sounds like you’re already having a good one, and tonight will be even better. I hope you get everything on your list and then some. Hopefully Le Beloved will come through so I don’t have to come over there and hurt him. kiss you sweet. xo

Melly, I tend to be swollen anyway. sigh. But yes, they are men and there’s no getting around that, even if I wanted to. In fact, I like it. I would have given myself a double hernia trying to get that unit in, which they installed in, like, half a nano-second. And I do love having Torie around, too - she was my biggest wish-for ever. I’m very happy with all my kids.

I like you, Melly. Taping Soylent Green and crawling across your kids’ floors ups your creepiness factor by at least 80%. I admire that. xo

    @@@

Karedy, at least your son doesn’t live in a van… down by the river! Your kids all sound great. I’m sorry about Carissa’s recent breakup, though: I shudder to think what Torie’s would be like, with James. Oh baby, no fun at all.

Wow, THINK of the money we’d have to spend on ourselves? Think of our perky boobs and flat stomachs! Shee-it!! Don’t think of that. xo

    @@@

Kaanks, you’re so sweet for giving Nines a box of her own. I don’t mind that at all.

I did, I did see Thirteen because I’m dead in love with Holly Hunter and MUST see everything she’s in so’s I can lust for her. I liked the movie, even though it was a little over-the-top in places. I think you’ll like it, too.

If you come over for tea, you’ll have to tell me again when tea IS. Is it like dinner over here? I know we had this discussion a bazillion years ago, but I can’t remember. It’s around 5p, right? Are you okay with cereal for tea? Are you okay with coffee for tea?

It’s too damn cold in Melbourne!! Come over here, but wear your tank top and Daisy Duke short shorts. xo

The box, must be exploited, especially for such excellent reasons. I think, the box was made for announcements, greetings and people of note! The pleasure, was all mine NM!
Kelly, I like Holly Hunter too!! She always comes across to me as a really sensible, intelligent and patient lady. Here, people don’t say dinner, they use the word tea. I oscillate between the two. Generally we have tea anytime from 6:30pm till about 8:30pm. For us students, tea is when the stomach says “Need Food” or when time allows.
But Kelly, Aanks likes the winter! Boots, remember boots?! I’ll have to get my sister to take a photo of me in a green cordrouy skirt, purple top and chocolate brown boots. Killer. Again, Killer. But the only person killed, is me. I’m not complaining. I’m the one who matters ;) I finally fit into the green skirt after not fitting into it for over a year!
What are Daisy Duke shorts? I’ll google image it. Daisy Duck, I’d understand better. =)

I’ve always liked Kathrine Hepburn and her sister Audrey (okay, so I know they aren’t sisters). Kate has an annoying voice and was born into money, but neither of those are her fault, so I choose to mostly overlook them.

Best movies for great lines include: Princess Bride, Grosse Point Blank, Zoolander, and What’s Up Doc?

Kaanks, you may want to avoid the Daisy Duke google image, trust me. Think Dukes of Hazzard, and cousin Daisy in her tiny little shorts, and then stop thinking about it. Immediately. I much prefer layers, myself. Boots, to die for. Yes, to die. xo

    @@@

Jennsee, haha. They ARE sisters! Okay, I also know they’re not. Audrey was simply ethereal, was she not?

Remember, I said cheesy lines. The cheesiness factor arises from the lines being said seriously, not as a joke. See? See? Isn’t Charleton Heston still the weener? Si! xo

I wish someone could bestow the “I like to cook” gene/mentality/basic skill level upon me. Can you do that? Bop me on the head with a spatula and make me want to cook, and make me not so terrible at it? Great! That’s what I want for my birthday. (16 days and counting…) ; )

And someday I would love! to visit Nantucket. You should come with me. I will talk incessantly about Melville and whaling terms and make ridiculously! excited! references to “Moby-Dick,” and you can just bop me on the head whenever I get too boring. We can make a movie of our trip and call it “Beauty (you) and The Bopped (me).”

Wow. I think the muscle relaxers must not be out of my system yet. Either that, or I’m just back to my usual nonsensical-ness. : ) smooches.

Kerridale on muscle relaxants? Better than the Carol Burnett show. WHY did I think of Carol Burnett? The world may never know… And it takes three, thrrrree bites to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.

If you’re looking for cooking genes, you’ve come to the wrong place, baby. That is, I HAVE them, but they’re not mine to bestow. They’re only on loan, and I use them only on holidays. Except this one: this one we went and got ourselves some Japanese food. Yum-ason.

I keep forgetting to get Moby Dick!!!! And I was just at Barnes & Noble… dang. I’m all hot to read it now. Yes, Cap’n Ahab makes me hot. I’m a sick girl.

    You, boring? Nevah. xo

    Hey Kel-Bell.

Today is also Clint Eastwood’s birthday. I read that in the paper this morning.

I’m so impressed with your boys - helping Mom out around the house… good boys. And air conditioning is a good thing, I hear. Wouldn’t know, personally, of course, since I’ve never lived in a house that had it.

And then there’s this: I decided today that I’m partial to months that have 31 days.

    That’s all.

Oh - and hey - who were the comedians on DVD? I love a good laugh…

Cath, speaking of comedians. har. WHY are you partial to months that have only 31 days, not that I really need to know in order to enjoy the fact? Silly. And Clint Eastwood? Remember when he left his wife for Sandra Locke, a zillion years ago? I was so mad at him. heh.

We don’t really have air conditioning, either, truly. Just a couple window units and a bunch of fans. Our cupboards are always expanding and retracting in the summer and the winter; it’s ridiculous. Climate control? Even our car’s air doesn’t work right. WHY did we move to the sweaty south?

I won’t be spelling it right, but the first comedian was Jim Gaffigan, who is HILARIOUS without being one whit dirty. Try THAT now. We really laughed the hardest at him. Then we watched some Dane Cook. Dane is also very, very funny, but fairly nasty. Plus, he doesn’t use his face when he tells jokes, so he’s waaaay better to listen to on CD than to watch. Get you some Jim, right away. He’s great. xo

You know the saying: ‘I’d tell you, but then I’d have to shoot you?’ (Fairly certain that’s a movie line… can’t recall the movie though.)

Anyway - that doesn’t apply at all to my 31-day month preference.

But I’m still not going to tell you.

I have to keep the mystery alive, you know.

hey, kelly,,another package went out to you today. This one is just for you. Book on faith and a surprise. Did you get the other package, I’m guessing that is where the Dane Cook came from. David would like to hear from Van. Have fun while he is hear, sorry Scotty is gone again, wish Ruth Ann and I could drop in. Take care.

Hey Roddy! Yes, we got the other package - I thanked you in the last couple post sections, but I guess you didn’t see it. So, thank you again!! You’re right about Dane Cook. Tell David thank you from us - as nice as it would be for Van to say so himself, he probably won’t… Bummer, but.

It would be nice to see you and your sweet little wife for a spontaneous visit now and again. I’d even rustle up some cookies for you. Like, even orange milano! xo
