Emphasis on the “nut”

kelly-and-froka-010edit.JPGHi punkins. I know…it’s been ages since I’ve written, and I know, know, absolutely KNOW no one is out there listening anymore. But I’m going to write anyway. I am having a really bad day and the person I usually write to when I’m having a really bad day is out with friends tonight (hi, Mally), so I’m on my own.

Jenns, did you have your baby yet?

So, after Spanish today I slipped on the steps and landed on my knees… In a SKIRT, mind you, though thankfully nothing rode up and mortified me further. I remember, in high school, a very shy girl who was forced to take part in a pep rally activity in which she had to get on a tricycle and race another person, also on a tricycle, across the gym floor. Our school wasn’t big, but because it was a private school, girls had to wear dresses, and you can see where I’m going with this, can’t you? Yes, she flipped over and her legs flailed at the entire student body like a pair of scissors trying to cut us in two. That poor girl: I don’t remember her name, but by God, I remember the color of her panties. They were virginal white. sigh. Part of that sigh is because I’m 99% sure I’ve already told you that story, and that her panties were pink in that version. Versional pink.

Whenever I’m tempted to feel like a perfect idiot asshole for slipping down the steps today, I shall remember her and the fact that there is ALWAYS something worse that can happen to a body. Imagine if I’d been riding a tricycle down the steps….? I’ll just have to quit Spanish now. Oh swell. Frito-lay! I can stay home and lick my wounds. You may not know this, but knees taste like wet grass, chewed gum, and a little floor grime.

Guess what I’m writing to you on? Nooo, not drugs. I’m writing to you on my new laptop! I love it so. I held out and got what I wanted: a white Inspiron, which I have named Archimedes, for the cranky little owl who sat on Merlyn’s shoulder in the fantastic novel which you must all hurry out and read this second, The Once and Future King, by T.H. White. I’ve always loved that little owl. NOT the Disney version, people. The NOVEL version. I beg you, please, don’t make me weep frustrated tears.

School is still going well, aside from the slipping and the falling, though I have yet to make many friends there. I AM becoming friends with Lisa, whom I met en espanol clase last term, but who is also my Literature-Based Research profesora this term, and I like her tremendously. The fact that I have only one good friend there doesn’t bother me too much, however; I’m not a person who needs a lot of friends. I just need tight friends…people who love both my nonsense and my seriousness, because that’s me in a nutshell (see: post title). Hey, you guys? I kiss you all! xo

Addendum: Contrary to appearances, I don’t always dress like Morticia Addams’ second cousin, I swear.

Oh Kelly, we put on a play version of A Christmas Carol in primary school, and I had only a single line, and I FORGOT it. Many people would emigrate to Antarctica with THAT in their past. Anyone can fall down stairs, and that’s not a mafia-type threat, by the way. Hee.

Also, once my trousers split down the middle during a school day, and a teacher had to tell me.

What you didn’t mention in your post, but you’ve let slip out to ME, is that everybody in school WANTS to be your friend. But you’re a tough NUT to crack, hee.

And nonsense and seriousness? That’s a perfect description of what they all (and we all) love about you! Michael Scott would never be able to say about YOU, “How could anyone be so un-self-aware?”

    Welcome back to the internet!

Looks like I am the only person awake or reading today. I see from your picture that you still have a painting hidden away somewhere. Sorry to hear you slipped, that always reminds me of when I slipped on our stairs and broke my tailbone. We have two sons at home again and Ruth Ann has her own sewing room and lately she has been finishing up some quilts that she had started a while back. Daniel starts work on Tuesday as a dishwasher, David gets a few hours a week at Kohl’s, Ruth Ann is at a different Goodwill store (looking to get a new job) and I am still at the Title Wave (loving it). I am up now to go walk around the PC track. I gave up non activity for Lent and have been getting up every morning and walking to PC and walking around their track.
I have read both the novel and seen the movie and like them both. Laptops are fun, and mine should be even cooler once wifi is installed at the TW.
I am glad that you are making a good friend there, tight friends are very important. I still miss my buddy Scott. Wish I would call him more.
    Thanks for checking in.

It’s so good to hear from you. I hope your fall doesn’t take the spring out of your step this winter.

(If your name were Summer I could have rounded out that last sentence nicely.)

    Hello, Kelly.

    Kells Bells,

Yes, I did have my baby. On February 9th. His name is Isaiah Benjamin and he is perfect. Perfect and cute. That’s my objective assessment.

Como va to clase de espanol this term? I hope you are learning lots. I’m thinking about taking up Italian again because there are some free podcasts on iTunes that I can listen to while I nurse Isaiah.

    Hola Kelly,

Always a pleasure to hear from you. Hope your knees are alright.

Morticia Addams’ second cousin was hot.

Kells, welcome back to the internet. How’s your day been, since the huge giant fall that everyone is discussing, (i kid).

A fall? that’s nowt in the mortification stakes. I think top prize might go to the kid who sneezed and farted at the same time in a huge echoey church during a pause in a recital (what was her name again? oh yeah, ME!)

Good to see you, and I mean that quite literally!

Jenn…congrats! And Mal…are you scared of the impending visit of the Welsh?!

No, I’m not scared of the Welsh. I always hope Ireland lose. As far as I’m concerned, professional sport is not sport. Just an advertising opportunity for big business, a media circus, and a means of brainwashing us into certain beliefs; mainly, that winning is everything, and that everything is a competition.

But many thanks for asking! I’m really not a cantakerous bastard…

Ahhhhh….see, I don’t know how old you are, but I remember the amateur days….it was exciting then and it’s still exciting now. And you know, I think you have it entirely wrong. It’s about pride in your country, I’d have thought as a fellow Celt you’d “get” that!!!

(Maybe more important for me as I am Welsh in English exile *sigh*)

Yeah, I know…I get what you’re saying…it’s just, to me, you can have pride in your country without having to compete against other countries, and I think international sport leads us to associate WINNING with pride. Which wouldn’t be so bad if that message wasn’t being reinforced in other quarters (”we have to start modernising to stay competitive…world-class…be the best…blah blah blah.”)

I’m one hundred and thirty, incidentally.

Mal. I’ve just noticed your comments. I am very disappointed in you. Very. I’d launch into a huge explanation of why you are so very very wrong, but I don’t want to clog up poor Kelly’s blog with rugby talk.

    You are wrong.

But, Fence, HOW can sport be business? How can it be professional? It’s a paradox. If it’s somebody’s job, it’s no longer sport. It’s no longer a game.

Do you think it’s any coincidence that so many businessmen like Denis O Brien put their money into sports? Not to mention all those Russian plutocrats. How often do you hear sports people using expressions like “There’s no prizes for second place?”. Sport is the perfect cultural expression of consumerism.

Sorry. You did say you didn’t want to launch into a debate, which is fair enough.

I’m pretty sure I’ve already told you my most embarrassing moment, and I’ve still got you beat–walking out into gym class so confidently (and late, since I was an extremely slow dresser at that time), only to have my friend lean over and whisper that I’d forgotten to put on my shorts!

I’ve read the actual novel of The Sword In The Stone–very cute and funny, and still far better than the Disney (of course). I’ve heard of the book you mentioned, but will have to add it to my “books to read” list.

I hope that by now, all the bruises to knees and pride have healed, Kelly-O’-My-Heart. Have a gooder week next week! :-) xo
