I’m It

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Since I’m so new to the world of web, I’ve had to learn things - bit by bit - that other bloggers have known for centuries (you know what I mean: in pc years). I just learned about “tagging”. Tagging, apparently, is what one blogger does to another - like in the game of tag, der - and afterwards the tagged blogger passes on the fun to yet another blogger. It’s like a little game. Michelle tagged me with some questions she herself had oh so wittily answered, so it’s my turn. Here goes:

Three screen names I’ve had: I’ve had only one, really, since I consider this blog a continuation of my other KellyWell site. It would take me awhile to come up with a couple imaginary ones. Melancholy Oracle of Disaster springs immediately to mind.

Three things I like about myself: Thank God, I’m aging well. I’m able to see most sides of many given situations. And I could write to save my life, if necessary.

I’m really cheesed that I have to stop at three.

Three things I don’t like about myself: I had flabby underarm waddles when I was five, God’s sake. I’m not very commensensical. I’m terrified of public speaking.

Three parts of my heritage: I’m related to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, whose famous poem, “The Courtship of Miles Standish” tells the (highly fictionalized) story of our mutual ancestors, John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, who sailed over on the Mayflower. Relatives of mine have fought in every American war, including against each other, as I also have Cherokee forbears. And one of our family names, Duggins, is a variation of the name Caedogan, one of the first land-lords in Wales. It means “Battle Axe”. Be nice now.

Three things that scare me: Crawling, disembodied hands, thanks to a movie I saw when I was seven. Secretly evil religious people. Any wild, uncontrollable natural disaster, such as tsunamis or tornados. Or unnatural disasters, such as Dame Edna.

Three of your everyday essentials: Five or six illuminating books I can read segments from every morning to kickstart my day; at least one huge swath of time alone; and lip balm.

Three things you are wearing right now: Toenail polish, stretched-out tank top, and natty old shorts.

Three of my favorite songs: Love Shack, by the B-52s; Sledgehammer, by Peter Gabriel; and Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, by U2… It’s impossible to stop at three…

Things I want in a relationship: Lots of laughter and backrubs and soul conversations. Truth is essential; even if that means ‘fessing up to something boneheaded; and lastly, much, much blatant flattery.

Two truths and a lie: I almost died from a burst appendix. I got stuck at the top of the “world’s tallest tree” and had to be rescued by the fire dept. I was a member of an accordian orchestra.

Three things I can’t do without: God, freedom, and the ocean

Three places you want to go on vacation: Ireland, Greece, and Mexico.

Three things you just can’t do: Cheerleading, or any other choreographed movement; and I can’t for the life of me twist a microphone cord the proper way, or endure tight, dark, airless places.

Three kids names: Adrian, Aidan, and Dmitri

Things you want to do before you die: I want to finish writing my novel, and compile all my poems into book form. I want to tour Europe on a motorcycle with my hubs. I want to sail the ocean blue.

Three celeb crushes: Gabriel Byrne, as I reiterate ad nauseum. Johnny Depp (how typical) and Joaquin Phoenix, that sweetie pie.

Three people you want to know these things about: twyla; cathy; and bill

Now, check in with my taggees soon and hopefully you’ll see their answers…

Bear with me again, as I - with Steve’s help, who thank God isn’t mad at me, which I thought was true because I hadn’t heard from him for a few days and by golly GUM, you don’t want to anger your web master, as horrible, nasty things might happen to you when you least expect them - set about changing the colors on my site. As you know, I’ve not been happy and have been experimenting for awhile. Just enjoy yourselves. I’ll be back to write more later, since I have a few things to say about a couple other subjects… xo
